SASUF is an internationalization strategy that aims to enhance research, education, and innovation cooperation between South Africa and Sweden. The SASUF Research and Innovation Week 2023, held at the University of the Western Cape between 27 and 31 March, 2023, supported this initiative.
A satellite event was organized in several universities throughout the country as part of the pre-event activities. Uppsala University and Ume University from Sweden hosted TUT’s satellite event.
A Swedish Higher Education Delegation Visits TUT to Showcase Joint Research
Potential collaboration with Swedish universities was explored as well as the current research work.
Areas for Collaboration
Academics from TUT presented during the visit, providing insights into current collaborations between TUT and Swedish universities bilaterally and within SASUF. Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, Teaching and Learning, and Tourism and Hospitality were among areas that could be enhanced collaborative activities.
The SASUF Network is growing at the University, Dr Papu-Zamxaka said in her welcome address.
At the same time harnessing international epistemologies, the satellite event aims to make TUT’s local and indigenous knowledge available to the international community.
“I am hopeful that this event will materialise into extension of our collaboration with our Swedish partners; Uppsala University and Umeå University and further strengthen ties with our sister universities; North – West University and University of Pretoria.”
The final comment made by Dr Papu-Zamxaka was: “As a People’s University dedicated to making knowledge work, our responsibility is to deliver cutting-edge research, qualitative education, and radical innovation to drive sustainable development.
My confidence is unwavering that this event will result in fruitful scientific collaborations. Papu-Zamxaka hopes students will benefit from the lessons delivered by this event as part of their drive to prepare them for the future.
