FEBE Hosts World Renowned Scientists at Research Seminar. Tshwane University of Technology’s Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment (FEBE) hosted two world-renowned and prominent scientists during the summer of 2023 at a research seminar for postgraduate students, academics and researchers specializing in Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering.
Prof Ranganayakulu Chennu from India’s Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) and Prof Baoming Chen from China’s Shandong Jianzhu University.
FEBE Hosts World Renowned Scientists at Research Seminar
As part of a bilateral collaboration agreement between South Africa and India, BITS is currently working on a project named “Nanofluid Thermal Energy Systems”. It is funded by the National Research Foundation and the Indian Department of Science and Technology.
Professor Chennu presented his research on the advancements in Environmental Control Systems and Compact Heat Exchangers for Aerospace Applications during his presentation.
The speaker presented a detailed overview of the air conditioning, heating, and energy demands faced by aerospace applications. Aside from highlighting the latest technologies and developments, he also discussed how they reduce emissions.
In his presentation titled “Progress on Solid-Liquid Phase Change Heat Transfer,” Prof Chennu discussed the latest developments in solid-liquid phase change materials for thermal energy storage, specifically the efficiency of the charging and discharging processes.
“Our thermal energy and refrigeration research group is currently conducting two very similar research activities,” said Professor Huan. By presenting advances in these application areas, the two reputable professors serve to broaden the minds of TUT staff and research students, he added.
Professor Huan emphasized the importance of research exchange and collaboration in establishing an academic and research environment at TUT. Staff members and students can exchange ideas and learn from one another by creating a platform to facilitate discussions on technological topics.
At the seminar on Advancing Thermal Fluid Technologies for Mitigating Emissions, Prof Huan led discussions.
