Pretoria High Court Celebrates Women’s Month with TUT Law Students. To commemorate Women’s Month, the Gauteng Division of the High Court hosted female law students from the Tshwane University of Technology.
A live court session was observed, judges gave motivational speeches, and a briefing on the duties of the Registrar of the High Court was delivered. The students also learned more about court processes during their tour of the court.

As part of the event, Deputy Judge President Aubrey Ledwaba and Judge Mabaeng Lenyai offered the students the opportunity to interact with them during their busy schedules.
It is Deputy Judge President Ledwaba’s encouragement to students to work hard to achieve their goals, despite obstacles they may encounter as women in South Africa, that really stands out to me.
He reminded them that he once was a student just like them, facing various challenges, but not letting them deter him from achieving his goals,” explained Professor Dane Ally, Head of the Law Department.
During the event, Raisibe Masekoameng Antonio, a third-year student commented: “We were very lucky to be in the same room with representatives of the high court, attorneys and advocates, as well as the Chief Registrar.
My understanding of the legal system has been greatly enhanced by this experience. Learning from experienced professionals and witnessing the High Court proceedings provided a unique perspective that can not be captured in books and lecture notes.
This knowledge has left a lasting impression on me; it has deepened my interest in pursuing a career in law; and it has inspired me to be a diligent and responsible female attorney in the future. I can achieve it!”
In the Faculty of Humanities, the Department of Law has had a longstanding working relationship with the North Gauteng High Court.
In September 2021, Justice Jody Kollapen (acting at the Constitutional Court at the time) also delivered a public lecture in one of the Faculty’s public lecture series with the permission of Judge President Dunston Mlambo.
