The African Union Internship
Interns are provided with the opportunity to supplement their education and develop their professional skills and experience through the African Union Internship Program. The AU internship program provides qualified individuals from diverse academic backgrounds the opportunity to gain professional exposure within the AU through a full-time engagement. We encourage all qualified individuals to apply as we promote respect for diversity and teamwork. It is essential that applicants demonstrate a willingness and ability to interact with individuals of various cultural backgrounds and beliefs, as well as a keen interest in the work of the AU.
The African Union Internship
At the beginning of their professional careers, participants in the program will be exposed to the work of the African Union and will have an opportunity to strengthen their professional and personal skills. Through the program, participants can learn in an intercultural environment while gaining hands-on experience in different applications. As well as providing support, the AU will be able to groom future African leaders from participants who possess appropriate knowledge and skills.
Focus Area African Union Internship
- In general, interns support programmes, projects and activities of the African Union by providing administrative and technical support:
- Deputy Chair’s Cabinet
- In addition to agriculture, rural development, blue economy, and sustainable environment (ARBE), other contributions are also made.
- The Economic Development, Trade, Industry, Mining Division (ETIM) is responsible for the following:
- Science, Technology, Innovation, and Education (ESTI)
- Infrastructural and Energy (IE)
- The Department of Political Affairs, Peace and Security (PAPS) is responsible for:
- Humanitarian Affairs, Social Programs, and Health (HHS)
- It focuses on the management of human resources (HRM).
- Support Services for Operations
- The Division of Management Information Systems is responsible for the following:
- Business Process Management (BPM)
- The Conference Management and Publications department (CMP) manages conferences and publications
- Security and Safety Office The African Union Internship
- Diaspora and Citizenship (CIDO)
- Services in the field of medicine and health
- Unit responsible for financial control
- Plan and Deliver Office
- Its name comes from the Office of Internal Oversight (OIO)
- The control and assurance of quality
- The three pillars of ethics, integrity, and standards
- The Commission’s Secretary’s Office
- The Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) is responsible for legal advice.

Eligibility Requirements
- A minimum of one year of active enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program
- Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s degree or advanced level qualification (Master’s) in an academic field related to the field of study;
- They must be citizens of African Union member states.
- In the final year of their undergraduate or graduate school program, they must be full-time students.
- Have a good command of at least one of the African Union worksling languages (Arabic, English, French, or Portuguese).
- At the time of selection, you must not be older than thirty-two (32).
- Conduct yourself in a morally upright and honest manner. The African Union Internship
- No serious criminal offenses excluding minor traffic offenses have been committed on your record.
- The internship positions do not require previous work experience.
Terms and Conditions
- In terms of travel arrangements and living expenses, interns are responsible for their own expenses – the AU will have no financial obligation towards them.
- In the event that interns need a visa for entry or residence, AU will make reasonable efforts to assist them.
- Travel compensation is not available to interns.
- A candidate may only be authorized to participate in the internship once for three (3) months, renewable once
- It is not the Commission’s responsibility to cover interns’ medical travel or evacuation expenses to and from the internship location. Throughout the duration of the internship, interns should have individual insurance coverage. The African Union Internship
Required Skills
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point is a must
- Internet and e-mail proficiency are a must,
- Ability to interact well with others
- Communication skills, both oral and written
- An advantage is fluency in at least one of the official languages of the AU (French, English, Portuguese, Arabic, Spanish, Kiswahili) and a second AU language(s).

- The following supporting documents must be submitted with the online application:
- An internship motivation letter outlining the benefits they expect to gain from the program
- Passports and national ID cards should be attached to the application
- Certificates of academic achievement certified by the university
- Curriculum vitae (CV) currently in use
- The institution of learning for which they are attending should provide a recommendation letter for internships
- A confirmation email will be sent to applicants once their application is successfully submitted.
