Storytelling serves many purposes, such as sharing news, changing viewpoints, preserving traditions, and transferring knowledge. Libraries and librarians have been central to the collection, preservation, and sharing of stories since 1818, when the first library was established. Life and the future are shaped by stories, which contribute to all aspects of life.

TUT celebrates
On Friday, 24 March 2023, the Library and Information Services (LIS) of TUT hosted a stimulating story telling event on the Pretoria Campus in celebration of National Library Week (20 – 26 March). The Library and Information Association of South Africa and the Gauteng North Branch (LIASA GNB) participated as well.

Keoagile Warie, a local artist who loves cultural storytelling, born from his love for cultural books and stories.
Kepi Madumo, National Librarian and CEO of the National Library of South Africa, presented stimulating and thought-provoking stories following this year’s theme of Libraries: Telling powerful stories. Others included Keoagile Warie, a renowned local artist, Takalani M, a national bestselling author and self-published novelist, as well as Mandla Ntombela, also from the National Library South Africa.
In addition to enhancing the story telling event with outstanding singing performances, TUT’s choir added further value and flavour, highlighting the importance of libraries, librarians, and library workers to the empowerment and strengthening of our communities.
