TUT Female Engineering Alum Wins Best Paper at UJ Research Conference
Sila, a summa cum laude graduate with a Master’s in Building Science from TUT’s Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment (FEBE), presented a groundbreaking paper titled “Small and Medium Construction Enterprises Perception on the Diffusion Factors to Adopt Building Information Modelling for Health and Safety.”
Nosabelo Sila, a Master’s summa cum laude graduate from the FEBE’s Building Science, won The Best Digitalisation and Sustainability Paper Award at the 13th International Quantity Surveying (QS) Research Conference.
This exceptional work, adapted from her Master’s research dissertation, clinched the prestigious award at the conference hosted by the University of Johannesburg (UJ) in collaboration with The South African Council for the Quantity Surveying Profession (SACQSP).
The conference, themed “Digitalisation of the Quantity Surveying Practice: Towards a Sustainable Profession,” aimed to foster knowledge on establishing a sustainable Quantity Surveying profession through innovation and digitalisation. Sila’s victory serves as a testament to her commitment to sustainability and the integration of emerging technologies.
In expressing her views, Sila emphasized the importance of Quantity Surveyors embracing digital technology in the Fourth Industrial Revolution era. Her research sheds light on the crucial diffusion factors essential for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises in construction to adopt Building Information Modelling for Health and Safety technology.
Sila, under the mentorship of Professor Justius Agumba, has not only secured this merit award but has also completed two conference papers and a journal article ready for publication. Grateful for the support received from her loved ones, colleagues, and husband, Sila acknowledges the role of Professor Agumba’s mentorship in shaping her academic journey.
