TUT Hosts UNIDO Towards Revamp of Industry 4.0 Curriculum

On 5 – 9 June 2023, the Institute for the Future of Work (IFoW) and the Institute for Economic Research on Innovation (IERI) of Tshwane University of Technology will host an international technical mission from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and other stakeholders at IFoW’s headquarters at Ditsela Place in Hatfield.

We will collaborate on the development of a teaching and learning program that combines simulation systems technologies, including augmented reality, virtual reality, and mixed reality, to create entrepreneurial opportunities and address the skills required for Industry 4.0.

With UNIDO’s assistance, the University’s efforts will accelerate its implementation of cutting-edge curricula that align with the latest technological developments in South Africa. An innovation, technology, and digital transformation specialist, Dr Ritin Koria, has extensive experience supporting African industrialization as part of the UNIDO team. A world-renowned software developer and co-founder of Simulytica, Sam Kerbeck is an expert in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Virtual Reality, and simulation systems technologies.

Tomb Raider will present a mini seminar at the end of the programme, which is aimed at SMMEs and entrepreneurs in the digital and gaming space. Kerbeck is well-known for his work in the interactive games industry.

A round table discussion format will bring together the UNIDO mission as well as stakeholders from the academic, government, and industry sectors to understand the current status quo and South Africa’s challenges, and to collaborate on developing curricula to address these problems.
