During the awards ceremony, Prof Tinyiko Maluleke, the Vice-Chancellor and Principal, praised the students and staff eligible for recognition as “a dazzling galaxy of the highest stars that hang alluringly up above the TUT firmament…who have given the very best of their sporting talents between December 2022 and November 2023.”
“We are TUT, we always win. We win in the sports fields. We win in the lab. We win in the classroom. We win in the graduation hall.”
Acknowledging the vital role of technical and coaching staff, as well as the unwavering support from fans, Prof Maluleke emphasized, “Because we are TUT, our athletes approach academics and life in general with the same level of zest and vitality, whether we are building a solar car or demolishing our opposition at the Olympic games.”
Concluding his address, Prof Maluleke stated, “It almost sounds trite and obvious by now, but we have to keep saying this: If you wish to move from good to great, you have to move to TUT. Once you move to TUT, you will keep moving from good to great, every day, in every way. Move from good to great, move to TUT.”
